Borussia Dortmund have secured their place at the top of the Bundesliga table after defeating SC Freiburg 2-1 on Sunday evening. The match was a closely contested affair that saw both teams create numerous opportunities throughout the game.
The match began with both sides trying to establish dominance and control the midfield. However, it was Borussia Dortmund who took the lead early on through a well-taken goal from Jadon Sancho. The German international found space on the right flank and delivered a perfect cross into the box for Erling Haaland to nod home.
SC Freiburg were quick to respond, however, as they equalised just before half-time through a penalty awarded to the visitors following a handball by Marco Reus. The German midfielder was caught off guard by the ball and ended up handling it, allowing Freiburg's striker Dominik Szoboszlai to convert from the spot.
Despite conceding the equaliser, Borussia Dortmund refused to back down and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser. And they got their reward when Ademola Adeyemi stepped up to the mark and scored a stunning goal from outside the box to give his side a one-goal advantage at half-time.
The second half was dominated by Borussia Dortmund, with the hosts creating numerous chances but unable to find the back of the net until the final stages of the match. In the 84th minute, they doubled their lead thanks to another fine performance from Jadon Sancho, who found space on the left flank and played a pinpoint pass to Ademola Adeyemi who finished coolly to put the game beyond doubt.
With this win, Borussia Dortmund remain at the top of the Bundesliga table, level on points with Bayern Munich. They now face Hoffenheim next week in what promises to be a thrilling clash of the title contenders. Despite conceding two goals, SC Freiburg will be disappointed not to have grabbed a point from the match, especially given the quality of their attacking play throughout. But overall, it was a good day for Borussia Dortmund as they maintained their momentum and cemented their position at the top of the league.
